Waste Stream Coordinator, Senior

Leads Waste Stream Coordinators in daily tasking and oversees general department workflow. Responsible for collecting, processing, and loading solid waste and recyclables for shipment to Port Hueneme, CA on annual shipping vessel. Job includes operation of front-end loaders, skid steers, and articulating forklift, as well as several types of industrial balers and an industrial tub wood grinder. Job also includes truck weigh station duties, and regular use of cargo straps, banding, and power tools.

Position requires constant physical activity, including bending, lifting and carrying 50 – 70 lbs, reaching and gripping. Work is performed 60-70% outside, often in extreme weather conditions. This position also supplies ancillary support to the station Spill Team including on-call duties after hours and possible night shift duties. Requires clearing physical qualification assessment, deployment to Antarctica for length of contract, and possible travel to spill school within the US.

Requirements:

  • Previous USAP experience
  • Equipment operating experience
  • Familiarity with power tools and machinery
  • Physical fitness
  • Valid passport

Preferred:

  • Supervisory experience

Resale Technician/Admin

The Resale Tech position manages auction activities from cradle to grave. Works with station population to handle intake process for auction items submitted to Resale, catalogs and loads items for shipment, and executes auction process in Port Hueneme, CA. This includes tracking all incoming items for auction, gathering required information from end-user, and verifying clearance for auction. Requires 80% office work and 20% outside labor, often in extreme weather conditions. Requires clearing physical qualification assessment and deployment to Antarctica for length of contract, as well as deployment to Port Hueneme, CA for vessel offload and auction.

This position also acts as department administrative assistant and is the station POC for Waste department. Maintains Waste Management email, conducts on-ice educational briefings, monitors and assigns work orders, fields phone inquiries, works with supervisor to manage department work flow, and completes weekly reporting, tracking, and paperwork. Performs other administrative duties as assigned.

Hazardous Waste Supervisor

Hazardous Waste Technician

The Hazardous Waste Technicians are responsible for the collection, processing and packaging of all hazardous waste on station. These duties include the legal classification, required packaging and proper labeling of all containers. Because of the highly regulated nature of USAP hazardous wastes (ACA, EPA, NRC, IMDG, DOT, State), documentation and tracking are extremely detail oriented and require a high level of quality control.  Classification of wastes is also a highly complex activity.  These technicians must have the proper regulatory training and be familiar with the numerous chemicals they work with each day. Each Hazardous Waste Technician also serves as a Spill Team Leader is on call for one week out of every four, twenty four hours a day.

Reports to Hazardous Waste Supervisor

Requirements:

  • 2 years (or Ice seasons) of Waste Management experience
  • College degree (2 additional years of experience will substitute)
  • Strong computer software experience
  • Able to lift 40 pounds and wear a respirator

Desired:

  • 1 year of Hazardous Materials shipping/characterization or reporting experience   — OR  —  2 years of Environmental remediation.
  • 1 year of High School Chemistry or equivalent
  • 1 quarter of college General Chemistry
  • College degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science.
